Biography
<>Hello! My name is Hunter Hoch, and I'm a recent graduate from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor's in Computer Science. I've held an interest in technology for as long as I can remember, and have acheived the first major step towards my career by obtaining my degree.
My motivations in learning technology stem from my hobbies, especially in video games and media. I've always loved learning about the technical means by which video game developers are able to make their visions a reality, whether through scripting, visuals, audio, you name it.
While I was once dead set on a career in software engineering, I found my interests expanded as I pursued my degree. Particularly, I gained a fascination in the technical umbrella that is Cybersecurity. I had always had a fascination with the discipline, originating from my interest in console soft-modding. The means by which people discovered how to gain control of a locked-down system was astounding to me, and I've enjoyed learning about both the means in which systems are broken, and how they are protected.
I also developed an interest in self-hosted services, the culmination of which being my own homelab which I plan to expand on in the future. This website is hosted on it using Caddy, an easily configurable HTTPS Webserve. I've also used it to host video game servers, interactive bots, as well as media services. Linux was a subject I knew I needed to familiarize myself with, and I've taken then heavy-handed approach to learn it.
Relevant Skills and Experience
What follows is a list of skills and practices I've developed as part of both my education and personal experience.
Server Hosting and Management
I host my own linux server/homelab which contains a multitude of services that are relevant to me. Such services include Caddy for webhosting (like the website you're on now), Jellyfin for media hosting, and many video game and bot services.
Cybersecurity Operations
Familiarity with significant Cybersecurity concepts, such as the kill chain, CVEs, red and blue teaming, and utilizing tools to both poke at and protect systems.
Full-Stack Web Development
Originally an Nginx ride-or-die, I moved to Caddy due to its simplicity in webserving. I've utilized technologies such as CSS and Javascript to create visually appealing webpages while implementing PHP and SQL on the backend.
Relational Database Management
Experienced in SQL variants (mySQL, SQLite) to store databases for multitudes of purposes.
Network Infrastructure Design
Familiar with network creation tools such as Cisco Packet Tracer, as well as Wireshark for packet traffic capture and analysis. Experienced with managing multiple networks for personal use.
Video Game Development
Previous experience in video game creation platforms such as Unity, utilizing C# for scripting.
